The RMJS-8T-DV-B is one of the most-specified parts in Lutron's commercial wireless range, and one of the most frequently mislabelled. It is not a relay and it is not a dimmer in the wall-box sense. It is a PowPak module that bolts to the outside of a junction box, switches the load, and drives a 0-10V control link to the fixtures, taking its orders over RF.
Here is what the submittal actually says it does.
What it is
Lutron's specification submittal describes it this way:
"The PowPak Dimming Module with 0-10 V- Control is a radio frequency (RF) control that operates 0-10 V- controlled fluorescent ballasts or LED drivers based on input from Pico remote controls and Radio Powr Savr sensors."
Lutron positions it for small rooms: classrooms, conference rooms and private offices. That framing matters, because the device limits below are sized for a room, not a floor.

Two numbers do most of the specifying work here, and they are different numbers.
The 8 A switch rating governs how much connected load the module can turn on and off. That is your fixture wattage question.
The 60 mA on the 0-10V control link governs how many drivers the module can talk to. That is a completely separate limit, and it is the one that catches people out. Most 0-10V LED drivers sink somewhere between 0.1 mA and 2 mA on the control line, so the practical fixture count varies enormously by driver. Add up the actual control-line current from the driver spec sheets. Do not estimate it from wattage.

Wireless: what it will listen to
The module uses Lutron Clear Connect RF Technology. For the RMJS-8T-DV-B sold in the USA, Canada and Mexico, the frequency band is 433.05 to 434.79 MHz.
Device limits from the submittal:
- Up to 10 Pico remote controls
- Up to 10 Radio Powr Savr occupancy or vacancy sensors
- 1 Radio Powr Savr daylight sensor
Range is the part worth reading twice. Lutron gives an RF range of 30 ft (9 m), then qualifies it:
"Wireless sensors and controls must be located within 60 ft (18 m) line of sight, or 30 ft (9 m), through walls, of the associated control module. The 60 ft (18 m) range is not reduced by a ceiling tile obstruction."
So 60 ft with line of sight, 30 ft through walls, and a ceiling tile does not count as a wall. Lutron also advises mounting the module in the centre of the room to maximise coverage, and to contact Lutron first for applications using foil-backed or metallic ceiling tiles.
Only one daylight sensor is supported per module, and the submittal notes that for multiple rows of daylighting, a separate PowPak dimming module is required for each daylighting row. That single line has resized more than one daylight harvesting design.
Mounting: read this before the rough-in
The module mounts to the exterior of a US-style junction box through a standard 1/2 in or 21 mm trade-size knockout. Lutron is unusually blunt about the alternative:
"The device must NOT be mounted inside a metallic enclosure - only on the exterior of a junction box, or marshalling box. Improper installation can result in degraded wireless communications and intermittent or sustained communications failures and will not be covered under warranty."
Burying an RF device inside a metal box voids the warranty and breaks the radio. Where local code requires the PowPak to sit inside an additional junction box, Lutron publishes Application Note #423 covering how to do that installation.
The module is also rated for plenum use, complying with NEC 2014 300.22(C)(3) for other spaces used for environmental air, and classified per CAN/ULC-S142 for installation in an air-handling space.
One more practical note from the submittal: the PowPak needs to be accessible for some programming steps. Record where it is mounted so it can be found later. Above a hard-lid ceiling, that advice is worth following.
Trim, defaults and behaviour
Out of the box, associated wireless devices control all connected fixtures together. Occupancy sensors drive 100% when occupied and 0% when unoccupied. Pico remotes give 100% on, a 50% favourite level, and 0% off. The daylight sensor reduces electric light as daylight increases.
Trim is adjustable at the module. Low-end trim ranges from 0% to 45%, which is how you stop a driver flickering or dropping out at the bottom of its range. High-end trim can pull maximum output down to 55% for energy savings in over-lit spaces. Lutron cautions that perceived low-end output varies between fixture manufacturers, and advises against mixing different ballasts or drivers on the same 0-10V circuit.
For hallways and similar spaces that must never go fully dark, a minimum light level option holds the load at the programmed low end instead of switching off.
Power failure memory returns connected loads to their previous level after an interruption.

The URMJS prefix is the Buy American Act compliant version, and it runs on a different frequency band. If a federal job requires BAA compliance, that is the part number, and the band change is worth noting if the site already has Clear Connect devices installed.
The -EM suffix is the emergency variant, and its sequence of operation is the most important thing on this page for anyone doing life-safety work. Without a Vive hub, if the emergency PowPak loses power it goes to full output with the relay closed for 90 minutes once emergency power is restored, and will not respond to button presses, Pico controls, occupancy sensors or daylight sensors during that window. Power must be interrupted for more than 3 seconds at 120 V~, or more than 6 seconds at higher voltages, to trigger emergency mode.
With a Vive hub, emergency mode is entered either by an override signal from the hub's contact closure #2 (driven by a fire alarm panel, security system or LUT-ELI-3PH) or by that same temporary power loss, and the emergency light level is configurable through the hub. On return to normal, the module comes back to its previous level in most cases within 3 minutes and guaranteed within 10 minutes. Lutron directs emergency lighting applications to Application Note #628.
Lutron also notes a replacement rule for the range: the "S" model can replace the non-"S" model.
A naming correction worth making
This part is often listed, including in some distributor catalogues, as a "RadioRA 3 wireless relay". Both halves of that are wrong, and both can lead to a bad order.
It is not a relay in the switching-only sense. It switches a load and drives a 0-10V control link. If you order it expecting a simple on/off relay pack, you have bought dimming hardware you may not need.
