RAB vs Lithonia LED Wall Packs: How to Choose

RAB Lighting and Lithonia Lighting (an Acuity Brands company) are two of the most-specified names in LED wall packs, and buyers researching a building-perimeter or security retrofit run into both. Here is how their current field-adjustable wall pack families actually compare on the numbers, and one thing to know before you order: Rock currently stocks RAB, not Lithonia.

RAB's field-adjustable wall pack lines

RAB sells wall packs across several tiers. Two verified against RAB's own spec sheets:

  • ALED XL (field-adjustable area/wall wattage): the ALEDXL3TWM model steps between 300W, 345W, and 385W in the field, delivering 39,253 to 42,126 to 48,702 lumens across those three settings at 5000K, 130.4-134.4 lm/W efficacy, 85 CRI, IP66 rated, UL listed for wet locations, 0-10V dimmable standard down to 10%, DLC listed, a 100,000-hour L70 rated life, and RAB's 10-year no-compromise warranty on this family.
  • BRISK17 mini wall pack: the BRISK17FA20 is a compact 20W fixture with CCT selectable at 3000/4000/5000K, delivering 2,600 to 2,921 lumens depending on the selected CCT, 80 CRI, IP65 rated, an integrated button photocell, DLC Premium listed, 100,000-hour life, and a 5-year limited warranty on this family.
  • WP1/WP2/WP3: RAB's classic prismatic-glass wall pack line, built to match the look of a traditional HID wall pack for easy retrofits, rated by RAB at over 15,000 lumens across the family, with DLC listed models, 100,000-hour life, and a 5-year warranty.

Warranty length is not uniform across RAB's wall pack catalog. Confirm the specific catalog number's warranty term on its own spec sheet before quoting one to a customer.

Lithonia's TWX wall pack line

Lithonia's current glass wall pack family is TWX, sold in three sizes (TWX1, TWX2, TWX3). Every size uses Adjustable Light Output (ALO), a rotary switch inside the fixture with eight settings that lets an installer dial the light output in the field, similar in concept to RAB's field-adjustable wattage tiers but with finer steps. Lithonia also sells a polycarbonate version, TWPX, for higher-abuse locations, spanning 2,700 to 13,200 lumens.

Here is the actual lumen and wattage ladder from Lithonia's own per-size spec sheets, which is more useful than the family range you see on the web page:

Size Fixed packages (4000K) System watts ALO range Replaces up to
TWX1 LED P1 1,600 lm, P2 2,950 lm 11W to 22W 600 to 2,950 lm 70W HPS or 100W MH
TWX2 LED P1 3,250, P2 4,400, P3 5,250, P4 6,850 lm 23W to 54W 1,450 to 6,850 lm 250W MH
TWX3 LED P1 8,800, P2 10,650, P3 12,900, P4 13,850 lm 65W to 108W 2,900 to 13,850 lm 400W MH

Note that Lithonia's family web page headlines the range as 2,950 to 13,850 lumens, which actually undersells the line. The spec sheets show TWX1 starting at a 1,600 lumen fixed package and dialing down to 600 lumens on the lowest ALO setting. Size from the per-model spec sheet, not the family headline.

Across all three sizes the electrical and environmental specs are consistent: IP65 rated for outdoor use and suitable for hose-down applications, CSA certified to US and Canadian standards, rated for -40C minimum ambient, a 0-10V dimmable driver standard with power factor above 90% and THD under 20%, 80 CRI at all three color temperatures (3000K, 4000K, 5000K), and a lumen maintenance projection of L81 at 100,000 hours in a 25C ambient. Efficacy runs 121 to 145 lumens per watt depending on size and package. A button-type photocell is available as the PE ordering suffix on every size. Voltage differs by size: TWX1 is 120-277V only, TWX2 adds 347V and 480V, TWX3 adds 347V. The lens is US-made borosilicate glass. The family is DLC qualified, though Lithonia notes not every version is, so check the QPL for your exact catalog number.

Every figure above comes from the manufacturer's own published spec sheet for that model. Worth knowing: several of the Lithonia specs (IP rating, dimming, warranty, efficacy) appear only on the per-size TWX1, TWX2 and TWX3 spec sheets, not on Lithonia's family or product web pages, so a quick web search will not surface them. Wall pack specs vary by individual catalog number within a family, so always pull the exact model's spec sheet before finalizing a schedule.

What this means for your job

Both are legitimate manufacturers with DLC-listed options and field-adjustable lines built for HID-to-LED wall pack retrofits, and both put a 0-10V dimmable driver in the fixture as standard. The honest split: RAB's ALED XL tops out at a far higher lumen ceiling and carries a 10-year warranty against Lithonia's 5-year, and its IP66 housing is a step above the TWX's IP65 if you are washing down or fighting driven rain. Lithonia answers with a finer-grained adjustment story, an eight-position ALO switch that reaches from 600 lumens up to 13,850 across the family, efficacy that at the small end (145 lm/W on a TWX1) actually beats the ALED XL, and a polycarbonate TWPX sibling for abuse-prone locations. If your job is a straight HID wall pack swap in the 70W to 400W metal halide range and you want one SKU that covers several targets, the TWX is well built for it. Match the fixture to the lumen target, ingress rating, and warranty term you actually need, and confirm the specific catalog number's DLC listing before promising a customer a utility rebate.

FAQ

Which has higher lumen output, RAB or Lithonia wall packs? RAB's ALED XL family (ALEDXL3TWM) reaches up to 48,702 lumens at its top field-adjustable wattage setting. Lithonia's TWX family covers 600 to 13,850 lumens across its three sizes once you count the ALO switch's lowest setting. The two aren't a direct apples-to-apples match since ALED XL is a larger-format area/wall fixture; compare the specific model closest to your target lumen range.

What does "field-adjustable" mean on these wall packs? On RAB's ALED XL and BRISK families, it means the fixture ships with a switch that lets you select the wattage or color temperature on site rather than ordering a fixed configuration. Lithonia's TWX uses a similar concept called Adjustable Light Output (ALO), a rotary switch that lets you dial in the lumen output in the field.

Are RAB and Lithonia wall packs DLC listed? Both offer DLC-listed models. RAB's BRISK17FA20 is DLC Premium listed; other RAB families carry Standard or Premium depending on the specific SKU. Lithonia's TWX family reviewed here is DLC Standard listed. Confirm the exact catalog number against the DLC Qualified Products List before counting on a rebate.

What's the warranty difference? On the specific families reviewed, RAB's ALED XL carries a 10-year warranty and its BRISK17 mini wall pack carries a 5-year warranty; warranty length varies by RAB family, so check the specific model. Every Lithonia TWX spec sheet states a 5-year limited warranty, consistent with Acuity Brands Lighting's Statement of Limited Warranty for LED/OLED commercial products, which warrants commercial LED fixtures for five years from date of shipment.

Does Rock Lighting stock Lithonia wall packs? Not currently. Rock is an authorized RAB Lighting dealer and stocks RAB's wall pack lines in depth. If a job spec calls for Lithonia by name, contact us and we'll tell you what's available or offer a RAB model that holds the same spec.

Which wall pack should I choose for a metal-halide retrofit? RAB's WP1/WP2/WP3 family is built to match the look of a traditional HID wall pack for a clean visual retrofit, rated over 15,000 lumens across the family. Match the lumen output to your old fixture's actual delivered light, not just its wattage, and confirm the DLC status of the exact catalog number if a utility rebate is part of the project.
