UL 924 Emergency Lighting Equipment
UL 924 is the safety standard for emergency lighting and power equipment — the listing that tells a specifier, inspector, or electrician that a device will keep an egress path lit when normal power fails. This collection brings together the UL 924 listed hardware that makes a code-compliant emergency lighting system work: automatic load control relays (ALCRs), emergency lighting control devices, transfer devices, UL 924 relay and power packs, and the emergency drivers and inverters that drive fixtures during an outage.
Most general-purpose lighting is switched or dimmed — which means it can't legally serve as emergency lighting on its own. A UL 924 listed emergency lighting control device solves this: when it senses a loss of normal power, it forces the fixtures it controls to full output, overriding any switch, dimmer, or occupancy sensor. That lets everyday fixtures do double duty as emergency lights, so you don't have to install a separate bank of dedicated emergency luminaires.
Under the life-safety codes most jurisdictions enforce (NFPA 101 and the International Building Code), emergency illumination must activate within about 10 seconds of a power loss and provide at least 90 minutes of illumination along the path of egress. UL 924 listing is how manufacturers demonstrate their equipment can meet those obligations, and how inspectors verify it on site.
Rock Lighting stocks UL 924 equipment from the control and emergency brands electrical pros already specify — nLight/Acuity, Wattstopper, and others — so you can match the relay, driver, or control device to the fixtures and voltage you're already running. Not sure which device fits your circuit? Contact our team with your fixture type, voltage, and how the space is switched, and we'll point you to the right UL 924 listed part.
