Troffers
Troffers are recessed fixtures designed for grid (drop) ceilings, most commonly in 2x2 and 2x4 sizes, and are the workhorse of office, school, and healthcare lighting. LED troffers and retrofit kits deliver even, efficient, glare-controlled light and pair with dimming and controls for energy-code compliance. Rock Lighting & Electric stocks LED...

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a troffer?
A troffer is a rectangular light fixture that drops into a suspended grid (drop) ceiling, sized to replace a ceiling tile — typically 2x2 or 2x4 feet. LED troffers have largely replaced older fluorescent troffers for their efficiency and even light distribution.
What is the difference between a troffer and an LED flat panel?
Both fit grid ceilings, but a troffer has a deeper housing with a lens or louver, while a flat panel is a slim, edge- or back-lit luminaire. Panels are thinner and very uniform; troffers can offer different optics and higher output options.
What size troffer do I need?
Match the troffer to your ceiling grid — 2x2 or 2x4 are standard. Use delivered lumens and the room's target light level to determine how many fixtures and what output you need; many LED troffers are wattage- and CCT-selectable.
Can troffers work with lighting controls?
Yes. Most LED troffers support 0-10V dimming and integrate with occupancy and daylight sensors and networked controls, which is often required to meet commercial energy codes such as Title 24.
